The Meditative essence of Pranayama: from the Breath, through the Pran, to the Mind
Pranayama is misunderstood and wrongly taught as breathing exercises. This is incorrect. It’s much deeper and much beyond. Swami Vivekananda declared eloquently in his characteristic flamboyant manner – “Pranayama is not, as many think, something about breath; breath indeed has very little to do with it, if anything ”. What a revelation, isn’t it?
In the session, I will try to unravel this enigma, and explain the essence of Pranayama. Also, we will understand and experience how it leads us into Meditation, effortlessly.
We will learn the following:
• Distinction between Pranayama and breathing
• The science of Pranayama, and the role of breath
• Various techniques of Pranayama
• Most importantly, achieving mental calmness, or meditative state by practicing Pranayama with awareness.
